Frames Per Second (fps)
Frame rate, or frame frequency, is the frequency
(rate) at which an imaging device produces unique consecutive images called
frames. The term applies equally well to computer graphics, video cameras, CCTV
cameras, and motion capture systems. Frame rate is most often expressed in
frames per second (fps), and is also expressed in progressive scan monitors as
hertz (Hz).
Frames Per Second (fps) Live:
This specification represents viewing your cameras
live from the monitor and not from the hard drive.
Frames Per Second (fps) Playback:
Represents the Playback frames-per-second when your
images are viewed from the hard drive. Normally this setting is adjustable by
user. When the fps on a system is listed look for Total Playback fps.
Frames Per Second (fps) Record:
This specification represents the recording
frames-per-second your images are copied to the hard drive. Normally this
setting is adjustable by user and is considered the most important of all the
fps listed on your DVR.
Look for the total "Record fps" on any DVR you are
considering. Then, divide (/) the total fps by the number of cameras.
Example
120fps / C = fps for each individual camera.
120fps /
16 C = 7.5fps
C=Total number of cameras
When you watch a movie at a theater it's normally
shown at 24fps, Television is normally 30fps. This is called seeing motions
"fluid".
